Samsung Launches 3 Touch Screen Mobiles Star, Star3G And Beat DJ In India

Samsung India has launched three touchscreen cell phones in the country. Samsung Star, Star 3G and Beat DJ are now a part of an array of 7 touch screen phones offered by the company in Indian market. Let us look at the features of each phone in detail.

Samsung Star (S5233) is a 11.9 mm compact phone sporting a 7.63 cm WQVGA full-touch screen. There is a feature called Photo Contact using which one can call a contact by simply touching an image. A stylus is added too. The phone has an impressive 3.2 mega-pixel feature-rich camera with smile recognition. Gesture Control is another feature that the company has started to equip its latest cellphones with. Using Gesture Control one can unlock the Touch Screen or run an application by giving a gesture command.

This phone supports 50MB internal memory which is expandable up to 8GB through memory card. Samsung’s TouchWiz User Interface is another feather in its cap. The phone has music recognition capability utilizing Shazam’s "Find Music" service. There is virtual QWERTY keyboard for messaging and handwriting features. All these features come at an affordable price tag of 11,100/-.

Samsung Star 3G also shares some nifty features of Star S5233 like Gesture control and camera. On internal memory front, this phone has slightly more (80 MB) of internal memory that is again expandable to 8 GB. This device offers full Internet browsing support with an accelerometer sensor for auto-rotation. The phone is 3G compatible. This handset is priced at slightly higher at Rs. 14,499/-.

Samsung BEAT DJ handset to comes with touch screen and sports intuitive and easy to use DISC User Interface. The cell phone has 2.8-inch AMOLED touchscreen display (240 x 400 pixels with 16 million colors). Beat DJ has 50MB internal memory expandable up to up to 16GB. This 3G compatible handset is priced at Rs 18,990/-.

Samsung is eying the big and growing touch screen mobiles market both in high-end and mid size segments. That is why over the past few months the company has released a wide array of cellphones in different markets including Asia, Europe and Latin America. So far as India is concerned, Samsung seems to be in a mood to invest heavily in the country. Economic Times reports that in this calendar the company plans to invest a whopping $5 million at its manufacturing facility in the country. Moreover, Samsung has plans to launch 2 dozen new models in early 2009 and has made it clear that it is taking up 3G and touch screen segment in a big way.
