Government owned telecom operator MTNL is going to launch its 3g services in Mumbai by coming May. The service branded Jadoo will bring high speed internet access from mobiles, laptops and other devices. Before this Mahanagar Telephone Services Ltd. has already launched the same service in some parts of New Delhi.
Compatible with 3G enabled mobile phones, laptops or notbooks, this service will bring the fast data transmission, video streaming and downloading to the users. What is more, with the launch of this service, a whole new world of rich multimedia experience open up to everyone.
The operator aims to bring 100,000 customers under its banner by the end this year. What is more, MTNL also plans to expand its 3G service plans to launch its 3G services in Bangalore, Chennai and other cities soon in coming months.
It is noteworthy that this is a delayed launch by MTNL as the operator had planned to launch its Jadoo service in Mumbai by February only.

Nokia India Launches N-Gage Mobile Gaming Services In The Country
Nokia India has launched its gaming service N-Gage in the country. With this service mobile gaming in the country will get a new dimension. Users will get more personalised online gaming experience. This new service, a part of Nokia's upcoming portal Ovi, brings 30 titles initially developed by both Indian and offshore developers including EA Mobile, Gameloft, Glu Mobile and India Games. Moreover, the company is on its way to strike a deal with more content publishers that will expand its bouquet.
Nokia N81 8GB Mobile PhoneGames offered by N-Gage can be played on any N-Gage compatible Nokia device or on a PC too via a web portal developed for the purpose. Mobile Phone Numbers May Soon Have 11 Digits
If you find it a herculean task to recall remember the mobile phone numbers, you are in for more trouble as cellphone numbers in India may soon get an extra digit. Department of Telecom (DoT) is considering an 11-digit numbering system since the 10-digit numbering system may soon be exhausted given the unprecedented growth in cellphone market and users in the country.
Telecom Engineering Centre (TEC) which is the technical arm of DoT, has forwarded a plan to government in this regard. In 2003, the DoT had envisaged that the current numbering system will be sufficient for next 30 years. However, the growth of mobile users in the country has defied all the estimations. The approximate base limit of 10 digit numbers is 450 million subscribers, which is likely to get exhausted as soon as by early next year. The subscriber base, by the end of February, was around 376 million.
Implementing the new 11 digit numbering system for handsets will not be as difficult as it sounds. Either a digit will be prefixed of a new digit will be suffixed to the existing numbers. What is more, there will no requirement of changes at hardware level as the change will be implemented in software and it will take a few months for the changes to be in place.

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Free Firmware Upgrade Details
When Nokia launched its 5800 XpressMusic mobile phone in US last February, it was dubbed as a competitor to Apple iPhone. But soon the company was deluged with the connectivity complaints from its users.
To tackle the issues with the cellphone, the Finnish company has released a major upgrade for the firmware of Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. The upgrade comes without any cost and is available from Nokia's website and is aimed at better responsiveness, data speeds, and camera features.
According to company the upgrade will bring faster mobile data downloads, better mobile email experience, and a better search experience with a new built-in search tool. The major features of the new software update include faster user interface and faster download time. There are certain features added to the camera like second camera now supports still image capture. There is a built-in mobile dictionary which supports 38 languages.
Sprint 4G Is Here Forget About 3G
When 3G services were launched, people were excited about its prospects. Everybody was talking about the fast speeds it will offer. Biggies like Apple, BlackBerry and more released their 3G enabled mobile phones with much fanfare.
There still many places where 3G network has not been enabled. But technology knows no bounds and speed. Sprint, which operates the third largest wireless telecommunications network in the United States, has announced that they will be expanding their Wimax based 4G network to new markets including Atlanta, Honolulu, Charlotte, Las Vegas, Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas, Portland, Fort Worth and Seattle. What is more, Sprint also expects to launch service in multiple markets in 2010 including Boston, Houston, New York, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. 4G allows customers to access cable broadband like speeds wirelessly enabling a mind boggling speed of 100 Mbit/s and 1 Gbit/s speeds.
By 2009 and 2010, the company is planning for several 4G enabled devices like a single-mode 4G data card, embedded laptops, a small-office-home-office broadband modem and a tri-mode phone. It is worth noting that Sprint launched 4G services in Baltimore in September 2008. Later, the company launched the first dual-mode 3G/4G device in December. You can pay through SMSs if you want to purchase services online. The platform links your bank account or cedit card to mobile phone. What is more, there is a system in place which allows you to avail of prepaid services too in case you do not want to link your bank account.
The number of people holding mobile in India is many times more than the those holding credit cards. And with Nokia on the verge of releasing its Ovi store where people can download and rent music, multimedia applications and movies, this investment makes sense. And Nokia is not alone to bring such services. Recently, Vodafone signed a mobile payment deal with Western Union a few months back.
All this indicates that mobile payments may finally be on their way to becoming norm in India.

Sistema Shyam TeleServices (SSTL) has launched its CDMA mobile services with the brand name of MTS in Chennai, India. SSTL is a joint venture between Sistema of Russia and Shyam group of India with the former having 73.71% in the joint venture.
MTS India is planning an aggressive expansion which include launching mobile services all over the country starting with covering 560 cities and towns in Tamil Nadu within a month. MTS will be start offering its services in Kerala by next week followed by West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand.
To counter the competition the company has come up with some very attractive schemes.
For one, the company is offering one million minutes ( you got it right 1,000,000 minutes) of free talk time to its customers with a limit of 150 minutes usage everyday.
All local call from MTS-to-MTS cost customers 35 paisa per minute, whereas calling locally from MTS-to-non MTS phones and calls to landlines will cost 70 paisa per minute. STD calls will cost Rs. 1.40 per minute. For ISD rates click here. Local SMS (on all networks) will cost subscribers 50 paisa per SMS, while international messages will cost Rs. 5 per SMS.
What is more interesting is that customers have the freedom to use their own handset or if they wish they can go for a handset from MTS.

Apple Discontinues Its $99 Bluetooth Headset
This weekend Apple may well have discontinued selling its iPhone Bluetooth Headset. This may be indication of two things. The first one and more likely is that the company is planning to come up with a new model with new series of iPhone. But there could be one more reason. There are rumours that company may be recalling the product for unknown reasons.
The single-button headset in question was introduced in June 2007 with the original iPhone at the price of $129. It was bundled with a Bluetooth Travel Cable and a Dual Dock that could charge both the iPhone and headset.
Later, the company pulled the prices of the elegantly slim, lightweight headset down to $99 to with the release of the iPhone 3G. This time Apple stopped bundling Dual Dock permanently annoying many customers. The headset had some problems like limited range, battery life and lack of voice dial controls.
